Lighting 87 series in Bocci style
Series 87 takes its inspiration from the fluid, ever-shifting patterns of a flock of birds – a murmuration of starlings against a twilight sky. Each fixture consists of dozens of small, hand-blown glass drops, each no larger than a thumb, suspended from a single central hub or a linear track. The drops are made in clear, smoked, or matte white glass, and each contains a tiny low-voltage LED that emits a pinpoint of light.
What makes Series 87 extraordinary is its ability to create a sense of movement and life. The drops hang at varying lengths, so the overall form is irregular, organic. When viewed from below, they appear as a shimmering cloud of light, each drop a star in a tiny galaxy. When a breeze stirs (or when someone walks by), the drops sway and rotate, causing the light to sparkle and shift – a constantly changing kinetic sculpture.
The series can be configured as a large chandelier, a linear suspension over a table, or a cascading curtain of light in a foyer. The drops are attached by nearly invisible wires, so the effect is one of pure levitation. Dimming adds another dimension: at low light, the drops become fireflies; at high brightness, they are a brilliant nebula. Series 87 is for those who want light that dances, that breathes, that tells a story of movement and air.
