Lighting 28 series in Bocci style
The Bocci 28 series pendants, featuring bulbous, hand-blown glass globes with internal reflective gold or silver chambers. Each piece is uniquely organic.
Series 28 is Bocci’s meditation on opacity and transparency, structure and flow. Each pendant consists of an outer, hand-blown clear glass sphere that encases a softer, inner glass form – often a second bubble or a delicate, irregular sac. Between these two layers, a halogen or LED lamp glows, casting light that is both direct and diffused. The interior element can be swirled with colour, left pure, or textured with tiny trapped air pockets, creating a sense of depth that shifts with every angle.
The name “28” refers to the original design year but also hints at the number of steps in the hand-blowing process. The glass is worked while molten, then allowed to cool slowly, so that each piece develops its own unique internal stresses and micro-cracks – a deliberate imperfection that catches light like a prism. When illuminated, Series 28 seems to contain its own miniature universe: a soft, glowing core wrapped in a crystal-clear shell.
This series is particularly mesmerizing in clusters. Hung in groups of three, five, or seven, the transparent spheres overlap, creating layers of light and shadow that change as the viewer moves. The cords, again textile-wrapped, are left visible, adding a linear counterpoint to the spherical forms. Series 28 feels both ancient – like a glass float from a fishing net – and futuristic, as if each bubble holds a quantum of pure energy. Ideal for dining areas, lounges, or corridors, it brings a sense of wonder and depth to any space.
